القبض على مواطن كان ينوي إحراق نفسه داخل صحن بالقرب من الكعبة،

أكّدت القوة الخاصّة لأمن الحرم المكي في بيان رسمي لها أصدرته قبل قليل أن الشخص المقبوض عليه في الحرم المكي كان ينوي إحراق نفسه داخل صحن المطاف بالقرب من الكعبة، بسكب مادة البنزين على ملابسه.

وقال الناطق الإعلامي للقوة في المسجد الحرام، الرائد سامح السلمي: "في الساعة الحادية عشرة من مساء يوم الإثنين الموافق 6 فبراير/شباط 2017 ألقي القبض على مواطن في العقد الرابع من العمر في صحن الطواف جوار الكعبة المشرّفة في أثناء قيامه بسكب كمية من مادة البنزين على ملابسه ومحاولته إشعال النار في نفسه". وتابع "فور ملاحظة رجال الأمن ذلك تمكنوا من منعه والقبض عليه قبل إشعال النار، وتوحي تصرفاته بأنه مريض نفسي، وستتخذ الإجراءات النظامية بحقه". وجرى تحويل المعتدي إلى هيئة التحقيق والادعاء العام. وتداول نشطاء على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي مقطع فيديو يظهر لحظة القبض على المعتدي، وأكد شهود عيان أن الواقعة حدثت قبيل منتصف الليل بربع ساعة، حيث حاول المعتدي استغلال قلة المعتمرين حينها، غير أن أحد المعتمرين لاحظ الشخص المجهول وهو يسكب البنزين على ستار الركن اليماني من الكعبة. وأكد الشهود أن المعتدي كان يطلق "عبارات تكفيرية"، وهو يحاول إشعال النار قبل أن يقبض عليه المعتمرون.
